Kenya has discovered significant deposits of minerals which could prove a major source of revenue income for the country in the coming years.

Kitui County, in the eastern region, is projected to have a deposit of over 400 metric tons of coal. Most of the minerals currently extracted are non-metallic minerals such as titanium, soda ash and fluorspar as well as metallic minerals such as gold, silver and copper. The legal and regulatory framework has seen some significant changes with the new Legislation and pending bills in Parliament that seek to regulate the industry. The discovery of oil and gas has, to use the cliché, placed Kenya on the international map.  Turkana for instance has big oil reservoirs and exploration companies such as Tullow Oil have made significant findings.
