Godwin Wangong’u

Godwin Wangong’u is a founding member and Senior Partner of the firm. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Diploma in Law. Mr. Wangong’u was admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya in 1988.

Mr. Wangong’u began his legal practice in 1988 and established the firm of Wangong’u & Company Advocates in 1993. He has over 22 years of legal practice and experience in commercial and corporate practice. He has broad and extensive experience in transactional legal services, general corporate finance particularly mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, equity fund raising through private placement and initial public offers, securitization, corporate restructuring in private and listed companies. He also has extensive experience in intellectual property law in registration and protection of trademarks. He has also acted as legal counsel in various commercial disputes including representation in the superior and arbitral tribunals in the country. Mr. Wangong’u has been actively involved in the review of the Capital Markets Regulatory framework in Kenya.

He is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. He is also a Patent and Trade Mark agent and Commissioner of Oaths.

Gladys Mboya

Gladys Mboya is a founding member and Managing Partner of the firm. She holds a Masters of Business Administration degree (MBA) from the University of Warwick (U. K). She is a graduate of University of Wales, Aberystwyth (U. K) and the Kenya School of Law and holds a Bachelors of Law Degree and a Diploma in Law. She was admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya in 1992. Additionally, she has attained certification in Aviation Finance from the Euromoney Legal Training School and certification in Microfinance as tool of poverty alleviation, from International Development Law Organization in Rome, Italy.

Mrs. Mboya began her legal practice with the firm of Hamilton, Harrison & Mathews in 1990. In 1992 she joined Agricultural Finance Corporation as a legal officer. In 1999 she established the firm of G.M Mboya & Company Advocates. In over 20 years of commercial and litigation practice she has extensive experience in commercial and property law advising multinational companies, commercial banks and non-governmental organizations on preparation and perfection of securities. She has advised on equity fund raising through private placement, initial public offers and secondary public offers, collective investment schemes and Real Estates Investment Trusts (REITS). She has advised on lease financing, business acquisitions and disposals.

She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Institute of Certified Public Secretaries. She is also a mediator and a Commissioner of Oaths.

She is a board member of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited, a publicly listed Company. She is a mentor with the Global giveback Circle and a trustee of Zawadi Africa Educational Fund, an organisation that sources scholarships for needy girls.

Peter M. Waiyaki

Peter Waiyaki joined the firm in September 2007. He is the head of our Commercial and Corporate Practice Group and the Company Secretarial Practice Group. In addition, he is the Partner in charge of the firm’s Strategy and Development.

He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Diploma in Law. Mr. Waiyaki was admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya in December 1992.

He began his legal practice with Hamilton Harrison & Mathews rising to the position of partner in the Commercial Department of Hamilton Harrison & Mathews. He was also the Assistant General Counsel of Kenya Airways Limited before becoming the Chief Executive of Central Depository & Settlement Corporation Limited.

Mr Waiyaki has broad and extensive experience in providing transactional legal services, general corporate finance particularly mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, equity fund raising through private placement, initial public offers and secondary public offers, securitization and corporate restructuring in private and listed companies. He is a recognized authority in Capital Markets transactions and has played a key role in the development of the legal and regulatory framework of the capital markets industry.

He was named as a top commercial lawyer in Chambers Global in 1999 and 2000 and again in 2010 and 2011. He is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. He is also a Commissioner of Oaths and Notary public.

He is a council member of Africa International University and a director of several private companies.

David Mwaura Maina

David Mwaura Maina is partner at the firm. He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Diploma in Law. Mr. Mwaura was admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya in June 2002.

Mr Mwaura leads the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practise Group and has advised multinational companies, commercial banks and other clients on diverse issues in commercial civil litigation. He majors in conveyancing, intellectual property litigation, commercial litigation, aviation law, and banking law.

He has been involved in public procurement matters and has advised on issues pertaining to the Capital markets. He has extensive experience in preparation and perfection of Commercial and Security documents for Banks and lending institutions and in Commercial litigation.

He is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya and the East African Law Society. He is a Commissioner of Oaths and a Notary Public.
